Recipe – Hot Habanero Hummus

Written by Mike Cheliak on April 7, 2009 – 9:00 am -

blairs_mega_deathI had a request to post this by Randy.  So here it is my man…enjoy it!

I love hot food, I consider myself an advanced hot food eater and therefore the only thing the really challenges me is Habanero based products.  I have Blair’s Megadeath Hot Sauce which is plain and simply the hottest sauce I have ever tasted (and I am sure there are others around).  I also love Dave’s Insanity Salsa made with Habanero peppers as it is great on anything.

Please note that you can substitute the Blair’s in this recipe with pretty much any type of hot sauce that you like.  If you like just a little spice then use enough of your favourite to make it just right.  Just try to stay away from really vinegary sauces like Frank’s as they tend to add too much flavour and may really change the recipe results.  You could substitute some fresh chopped Jalapeno peppers.

You can find Blair’s and a great selection of hot sauces and specialty hot sauce items at www.fieryfoodconnection.com.  Be warned to make sure you read the label on this stuff.  It IS lethal hot!  I won’t let anyone try my Blair’s that isn’t a seasoned, experienced, veteran hot food lover.

INGREDIENTS
2 cans chickpeas — drained and rinsed well
8 -10 cloves fresh garlic — chopped
1/4 Cup Fresh sqeezed lemon juice
1/4 Tahini Butter
1/4 Cup Finely Chopped Cilantro
1/4 TSP of Ancho Chili Powder
1/4 TSP of Chipotle Chili Powder
1 TSP Ground Cumin
1/2 TSP of Blair’s Megadeath Hot Sauce (or suitable replacement)
Salt and Pepper to taste

Extra Virgin olive oil

METHOD
Place garlic in food processor and process until finely chopped. Add the remaining ingredients except the olive oil.  Puree mixture and start adding the Olive oil in a slow stream.  Stop around 4 TBSP and check for consistency.  You can continue mixing and adding until you have a nice smooth mixture without any chalkiness.  Add your salt and pepper at the end to taste.

I love this and any other hummus with fresh veggies (celery, carrots, cucumber, grape tomatoes, peppers…).  Many people also enjoy this with pita points and crackers.
